There are several components to training for overall fitness and today I’m going to have a look at strength training.

And while cardiovascular health is a very important piece of the health puzzle, strength training is not to be ignored.  There are just so many benefits to resistant training! I will just touch on a few.

Have you ever thought of trying boxing? Kickboxing? I’m not talking about turning you into Rocky Balboa and putting you in the ring for a fight until TKO.
I’m talking about boxing and kickboxing for fitness. I can already feel your hesitation because I’ve had most people resist or turn down my initial offer to introduce them to fitness boxing or kickboxing, I am, however, very persuasive and manage to convince them to give it a try.  In 9 years of training fitness, boxing and kickboxing, I’ve never had a client who didn’t enjoy this type of workout. In fact, they’ve always come back for more.

Happy New Year!! 2014 has arrived and there is no better time to start something new than right now.
You're probably ready to settle back into a routine and reevaluate your health and fitness priorities.  I’m certain most of you have resolved to work out more, eat better and be a healthier you.

In my private practice, I work with many couples who are struggling to improve their communication and closeness with their partner. They are often frustrated with their lack of together time but unfortunately have a difficult time prioritizing it. Somewhere along the way, between late night feedings, demanding jobs, housework and hockey practice, they lost their way.

There are several reasons why I love being a personal trainer:
#1- I am able to earn my living doing what I love #2- I get to help others reach their goals and live healthy lifestyles #3- I am active all day while working #4- I get to work with great people everyday

I recently went to NYC with my son and my best friend for what I thought was going to be the easiest place to keep the feet moving and the mouth resting!  Not to my surprise, the "TEMPTATIONS" of this  fascinating city hit me at every angle and every corner!  Walking, talking, looking and shopping, there were food temptations beyond belief. From street vendors, to the famous Eataly across from  the unique Flat Iron building, to Soho's Jack's Wife Frieda, to the best Ribs at Daisy May BBQ on West 46th, and finally the outdoor Brooklyn Food Fair, an absolute foodies haven.  After 24 hours I  asked myself...why is this happening to me?

Ok, let’s talk HPV.
No it’s not the latest cable channel on your television.  It is the most common sexually transmitted infection.  HPV is also known as human papilloma virus.  You can acquire this virus by genital sex, anal sex, oral sex or by simple genital to genital contact.

I remember as a teenager going to a “jazzercise” class with my aunt, struggling to follow along in my Flashdance attire, doing my best grapevine to Lionel Ritchie’s “Dancing on the Ceiling”.  Ok so I’ve just dated myself with several key words in that statement.

Although this topic may appear to be of interest to men only, I can assure you that as a nurse and woman having seen men very close to me (my dad at age 65 and life partner at age 52) diagnosed and treated for this disease, I find the subject just as important to women who have men they care for in their life.
