What does being fit mean to you?

When you think about of being fit what do you think of?

I know many people have the misconception that being skinny equals being fit.  That is definitely untrue.  I have trained many many unfit thin clients. I can also say that I’ve had clients who were fit but possibly had a slightly higher BMI than is recommended.   The thin clients often tell me that it’s actually frustrating for them that everybody just assumes they are fit and question why on earth they’d be seeing a personal trainer; they are thin therefore they must be fit.

Strength training 3 times a week will help you achieve overall fitness.

The definition in the dictionary of  fitness – Good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition.
This rings true to me but I would also add that being fit is being able to use your body to do what you want, when you want, when you are fit your body works for you.
You are better able to perform your daily functions and enjoy life.

There are several elements to overall fitness:  aerobic fitness, muscular strength, flexibility and nutrition.

Each component of fitness is equally important to give you a fit body.   You should train each component of fitness to help you achieve the best working body possible.

1) Improve your aerobic endurance – challenge yourself, increase your intensityphoto_2267_20070225

2) Increase muscle strength – follow a resistance strength training routine

3) Increase your flexibility – commit to a stretching routine

4) Engage in healthy eating – educate yourself on the best food choices

Take the time for yourself to work on your fitness and enjoy all the benefits that having a fit body will bring you.  🙂
