preventing burn-out

By the end of the day, when I get into bed I am truly TIRED!!  My body is exhausted, my nerves are spent and emotionally I am pooped! I try to live each day to its fullest  and I definitely try to accomplish as must as I physically and emotionally can – but I am guilty, like many other busy women, of putting my needs at the bottom of the to-do-list.

Life becomes so overwhelming at times that we forget to replenish ourselves. And let’s face it -if we don’t, who will?

Everyone woman wants to be successful in life. We all strive to be the most dutiful daughter, best wife, most involved mom, most respected employee – and of course, to be truly valued for our individual  GREATNESS.

BUT, how do we do it all without burning out ?

  1. Exercise makes you feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. It gives you more energy to conquer your hectic day. It can ultimately provides you with a sense of vitality and improve your overall well being .
  2. Creative outlets such as painting, dancing and photography can put you in a state in which you are deeply engaged in what you are doing. It stimulates the brain and potentially leads you to a relaxation and replenishment….even after a hectic day.
  3. Confront and overcome past issues and traumas as they can keep you feeling emotionally drained and overwhelmed.  They can even prevent you from excelling at everyday challenges.
  4. Rid your life of toxic people as they have the potential to drain the life out of you. Keep yourself surrounded with loving, kind and supportive people who embrace and appreciate you.
  5.  Keep an affirmation list in which you write positive, admirable quotes about yourself. Remind YOURSELF everyday of your worth and importance. If you believe in yourself other will too.

  • You said it with #4!!! My favourite. I also feel that as little as 20-30 minutes to ourselves to do something for “you” helps. It can be a bath, reading book, even a phone call with a friend, or sitting outside breathing the fresh air. As long as it is for YOU, and the key is to not feel guilty about it, we all deserve it!

  • I have two I would like to add to the list:
    1A) Learn to say “No” – the only person responsible for you feeling burned out is …… you! It’s not your boss, your spouse, your friend, your mother!
    1B) Learn to NOT feel guilty when you say “no” 🙂
    2) (this helps with 1B) Remember this: when travelling on an airplane, when the oxygen masks drop from the ceiling who’s mask are you supposed to put on first?? yours or the person’s beside you that needs help? The answer is YOURS! why? because if you pass out while trying to put on someone else’s mask you won’t be of any use to anyone – and the person beside you who couldn’t put on their own mask certainly can’t be putting yours on….
    3) Time is something you TAKE not something you HAVE!

  • This is a great article. Also, another thing to help prevent burn out is less screen time. We live in a world of constantly looking at screens that if we reduced our screen time we would be able to focus more and this means every one needs to work on less screen time including myself.
